Hidden Truths
A Doorpost Film Project
MOM and BOY run a small fruit stand on the outskirts of Shanghai. Every now and then, MOM writes mysterious messages on the paper used to wrap fruit and hands them to selected customers. MOM’s friend, JACK, asks BOY to make an important delivery to a special customer and return immediately. On the delivery route, BOY is distracted by a friend and the two play late into the evening. The APPLE never gets delivered. When BOY returns to the fruit stand, it is very dark and MOM has disappeared. Scared and hungry, BOY pulls out the apple to eat and sees an address on the wrapper in MOM’s handwriting. BOY rushes to the address and sees for the first time what the “family business” is really about...
